Message from Archbishop Robin Eames
Church of Ireland, Archbishop of Armagh, Primate of All Ireland and Metropolitan

'We have a rich spiritual heritage thanks to the faith and courage of Patrick. That faith has sustained this island and all her people throughout the centuries. Patrick’s first visit to Ireland was that of victim of terror, a child trafficked for the gain of others. In finding God in these horrendous circumstances Patrick, his story offers hope to all who find themselves the victims of someone’s aspirations.

Patrick in taking his new found faith to the limit found himself called back to those who had mistreated and abused him. He struggled through his journey of forgiveness wrestling all the time to walk in grace in mercy and communicate a gospel free from prejudice.

He was no stranger to betrayal even from those closet to him. His voice on behalf of the marginalised brought him into conflict with some of the authorities of his day, and he was not silenced by fear or threat.

Patrick was devoted to the God who had called him. He was a person of profound faith, he overcame incredible obstacles to fulfil his mission. He was wise in leaving writings behind which are still being poured over. His example should never be forgotten'.
