| The Celtic Diaspora The term ‘diaspora’ refers to the voluntary scattering or dispersion of the Jewish people throughout the ancient world. This began as many decided to stay in Persia after the Babylonian exile was over. Over the centuries the Irish have scattered all over the world for various reasons, sometimes by choice but often by necessity. As a result of his, today there could be as many as 70 million claiming Irish descent with 43 million of this 70 in the US. It has been estimated that 30% of the population of Australia is of Irish descent. In Argentina the Irish make up a significant ethnic minority! Estimates vary that there are between 100 and 150 million people who can claim Celtic decendancy from Ireland, Scotland and Wales. So for every Celt living in these countries there are twelve living in others? Time will tell why there has been such dispersal. It’s true that that the original settlers of Ireland, Scotland and Wales were a nomadic people, perhaps that nomadic wandering contributed to this dispersal as well as other factors due to politics and economics. If only there was a supernatural
fuse wire that joined the dots of the Celtic Diaspora… Pray on St Patrick’s Day will join the dots of this Diaspora with it’s focus on praying for Ireland, so common be part of this huge picture of prayer.
